1. What is the idea?
The idea is simple: to try and pay for our university tuitions by selling personal and corporate advertising space. If you buy an image for advertising purposes, we will be improving your webpage visits, rolling over to your overall sales. This is the future of advertising, affordable and effective. For around .05 cents a day, you will be buying an image that could generate several visits to your website. The innovative aspect of this idea will have customers looking up the website to see how successful it becomes. The more visits our website receives, the more valuable the images become, something that we hope to see soon.
We would also like to create one website where local consumers can find local businesses, the informal Yellow Pages one would say. Since university education is very expensive, we had to come up with creative ways to generate the money.
So, everyone is welcome to buy our “hands”, which are available in “blocks”, each measuring several pixels each. The images are large enough to see any logo quite clearly, and to display specific text to show what your website is about. Contact us to receive the actual dimensions of the images advertised. You will see the homepage is divided into several blocks of “hands”, and with the purchase of every “hand” you will be contributing towards our university funds.
You can buy as many “hands” as you like, as long as there are some available (we will post the stats on a weekly basis). When you buy a hand, you can then display an image/ad/logo of your choice in the space you have purchased. You can also have the image click through to your own website. However, no obscene or offensive images are allowed.
The “hands” you buy will be displayed on the homepage permanently. The homepage will not change. Using some of the money we make from the site, we guarantee to keep it online for at least 5 years, but hopefully much longer. As these images will be seen by many potential customers your website traffic will definitely improve. So, in the long run, we believe these images could be a very successful advertising space to purchase.
2. Who are you?
Our names are Nicholas and Adrian Paris. We live in Oakville, Ontario in Canada. Nicholas, 17, will be going off to McMaster University for his First year in Engineering. Nicholas plans to get into Computer Engineering 2nd year and eventually working for a big company. Adrian, 20, is entering his Third year in Political Science at York University. Adrian hopes to one day become a successful lawyer and help his community out.
3. Are you genuine? Is this a joke?
We are completely genuine and although this site might be different in various ways, it is not a joke! You can email us at anytime at support@ilentahand.com, if you feel unsure about us. There will be others who might offer similar links, but just an email will rest all your doubts.
4. How did you come up with the idea?
We do not claim to be the first one with this idea. It has been done before and will continue to be done. Although the idea is similar in some ways, it is also very unique. This website is directly focused into generating funding towards our University tuition, and so, you will be contributing to a worthy cause. This idea came out of frustration with the costs of corporate advertising, and the need to raise funds for university tuition. One time classified listing in the local paper will cost around $40, while a coloured advertisement starts at $250. Radio and Television advertising...well let’s just say most small businesses cannot afford it. These ads may not be even seen by your target market that one time, and end up being a waste of your money. These pixels should be an excellent way to spend your advertising dollars.
If you are willing to pay $1 for five visits to your website daily for the next five years, you will end up paying around $1825. Our advertising space will be offering a similar service for just a fraction of that price. Your $100 will be definitely going a long way for you, and supporting a worthy cause at the same time.
5. Why do you need so much money for University?
We don't. Tuition might be expensive, but they're not that costly yet! But with this project we knew we had to think big. We will be happy if we generate enough money out of this business venture to pay for our education loans.
6. What will you do with the money?
Firstly, we would like to put the money into our education funds. If we do end up making more than we need, we will use them for our business plans that we start with. Adrian has already started Oakville Music Lessons, www.oakvillemusic.com, and both of us are starting webdesign company called Blackdragon Designs, www.blackdragondesigns.com. We will post any links to our new business ventures here, so watch for them.
7. Why should I buy your pixels?
Because you will have an image and a link to your site on the homepage of a site that could potentially be seen by millions of people over the coming years. A 1 time classified listing in the local paper will cost around $40, while a colored advertisement starts at $250. Radio and Television advertising...well let’s just say most of us cannot afford it. These ads may not be even seen by your target market that 1 time, and end up being a waste of your money. So, relatively this is a great value for your money. If you are willing to pay $1 for five visits to your website daily for the next five years, you will end up paying around $1825. Our advertising space will be offering a similar service for just a fraction of that price. Your $100 will be definitely going a long way for you, and supporting a worthy cause at the same time.
The site will be online for at least 5 years, that's guaranteed, but the idea is to keep it online forever. So you really could own a piece of internet history!
8. Why can't I buy one single pixel?
We decided that although it would probably be cool if individuals could buy a single pixel each, in practice, it wouldn't so effective. The reason we believe this is because you can't display anything meaningful in one pixel - nor click it easily - so visually, it would be pointless. With thousands of random tiny coloured dots all over the place, the homepage would be a mess.
We also thought that the site would appeal more to people with businesses/websites to advertise than it would to individuals, or to put it more accurately, businesses would pay more to have a meaningful graphic on the homepage. Hence the minimum purchase is $100 (Can) - a 10x10 block.
If you really want to own a single pixel, there is always the option of clubbing together with your friends/family/colleagues and buying a 10x10 block.
9. How long will the site be online?
The site will be online for 5 years guaranteed (at least until 17th August 2013). We aim to keep the site online forever (or as long as humanly possible).
The idea is to create something of an internet time capsule: a homepage that is unique and permanent. Everything on the internet keeps changing so fast, it will be nice to have something that stays solid and permanent for many years. You can be a part of that!
10. If you want money for University, why don't you get a job?
Both of us have worked at different jobs and were unable to find anything that would serve us well in the long run. We could not even afford to pay for own university, let alone have a social life on what we earned at our part time jobs. Finding meaningful employment is getting so hard these days!
Both of us have decided that we should try innovative ways to earn money, but we plan on taking summer jobs to help us with our costs of living.
11. Are you worried about copy-cats/rip-offs?
Not at all. Even though this idea has been tried in the past, the success of such a website remains on advertising and personalizing the concept. Pixels are only worth something if there are people who are going to look at them. We believe that all competitors will be unable to replicate the uniqueness of the concept. I would like to encourage all those who would like to copy our ideas to do so, thus making us even more proud of our work.
